Peru has released a draft resolution for public consultation that proposes a comprehensive review of current solid waste legislation. The proposal seeks to align the country’s regulations with modern concepts, such as the Circular Economy and post-consumer responsibility (EPR).
Main proposed changes:
Reuse of materials discarded in mining and production processes;
Implementation of EPR for priority products;
Regulation of the import and export of non-hazardous waste;
Adoption of updated annexes to the Basel Convention, specifically on electronic waste (WEEE).
The public consultation will be open for 15 days.
