The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) of Peru announced, on November 15, 2025, the approval of the innovative Direct-to-Cell (D2C) Connectivity initiative. This decision positions Peru as the first country in South America to authorize this type of technology under a flexible and forward-looking regulatory framework.
The D2C project enables direct connectivity between mobile devices and satellite networks, expanding coverage to remote and underserved areas without the need for traditional terrestrial infrastructure. By embracing this regulatory approach, the MTC aims to foster technological innovation, enhance digital inclusion, and strengthen emergency and public safety communications across the country.
This milestone reflects Peru’s commitment to modernizing its telecommunications ecosystem and encouraging the deployment of next-generation connectivity solutions through regulatory flexibility and innovation-friendly policies.
