Mexico’s federal environmental agency has released the new edition of PROMARNAT, a program that outlines its priorities for the next five years. It is not a regulatory action plan but rather a guideline for the agency’s main objectives:
- Conservation and sustainable use of ecosystems
- Restoration of priority areas
- Guarantee of the human right to water
- Climate action and pollution prevention
- Environmental justice and human-centered ecological policies
- Institutional strengthening and intersectoral coordination
Impact for businesses:
- Expect new regulations and stricter enforcement on emissions, hazardous waste, wastewater, and energy efficiency.
- Potential new obligations for site remediation and updates to NOMs related to hazardous waste, contaminated sites, high-risk activities, and extractive industries.
Notably absent:
- No new chemical regulation similar to REACH.
- No new requirements for carbon or sustainability reporting, as these are already addressed by the CNBV as of 2025.
At Trustcert, we closely monitor these changes to support your company in every step of international compliance.
