On July 16, 2025, the President of Mexico signed the new Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law into law, which came into effect the following day, July 17. The new legislation completely repeals the former Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law, promoting a significant restructuring of the sector. With the enactment of the new law, the Mexican government begins an institutional transition process, in which the current regulator, the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFETEL), will continue to operate for another 30 days. After this period, its responsibilities will be officially transferred to two new agencies:

Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT): a new regulatory body responsible for overseeing and enforcing regulations for the telecommunications sector in the country.

Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency (ATDT): an agency focused on digital innovation, technological transformation, and the development of public policies to modernize the sector.

This change aims to modernize the regulatory framework, increase administrative efficiency, and leverage the country’s technological development, in line with the new challenges and demands of the digital and communications ecosystem.

Companies operating in the sector should be aware of the regulatory changes and adjustments that may occur during this transition period.
