The Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFETEL) of Mexico reminds the market that Disposición Técnica IFT-017-2023 — the new test standard for 5 GHz and 6 GHz WLAN devices — will take effect on November 7, 2025.
Published on February 10, 2025, this regulation introduces updated specifications and test methods, replacing parts of IFT-008-2015 (NOM-208-SCFI-2016). Once effective, the previous provisions covering the 5725–5850 MHz band will no longer apply to digital modulation or hybrid digital modulation equipment.
Accredited laboratories and Certification Bodies (CBs) are already registered and ready to process new applications under this updated framework. Devices for which approval procedures began before the enforcement date will continue to be evaluated under Type B or Type C approval processes, as applicable.
