On July 30, 2025, the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) published a decree ordering the dissolution of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFETEL), transferring all its functions and operations to the newly created Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency.
The new public legislation establishes standards for:
Use and allocation of the radio spectrum;
Public telecommunications networks;
Deployment of and access to active and passive infrastructure;
Orbital resources (satellites).
IFETEL’s human, material, and financial resources will be incorporated into the new Agency. Processes and matters already underway at the Institute will be taken over by the Agency, which will continue its analysis and decision-making.
However, from the date of publication of the decree, all formalities and procedures will be suspended for 60 business days.
