The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of India issued a notification on October 29, 2025, announcing the migration from standards IS 13252 (Part 1):2010 and IS 616:2017 to the new IS/IEC 62368 (Part 1):2023.

Under the new framework, Extended Reality (XR) products—including Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR) devices—must comply with IS/IEC 62368 (Part 1):2023 by May 1, 2026.

For all other products currently covered under IS 13252 (Part 1):2010 and IS 616:2017, the compliance deadline is November 1, 2028. After this date, both legacy standards will be withdrawn.

This transition represents a significant move toward aligning India’s electronic product safety standards with international best practices and strengthening consumer protection.
