Brazil’s Anatel has launched a 24-month transition period to adapt existing authorizations under the Global Mobile Satellite Service (SMGS) to the new Satellite-Based Personal Mobile Service (SMP) framework. During this period, no new SMGS licenses or authorizations will be granted.
According to Anatel, the migration will not affect current users and is part of the agency’s broader effort to simplify and modernize telecom regulations. The initiative aligns with the trend of technological convergence, supporting services that integrate terrestrial and satellite infrastructure for user terminal communications.
