The Superintendence of Grants and Resources for Services (SOR) published, this Wednesday (April 17), Act No. 5155, dated April 17, 2024, which approves the updated Technical Requirements and Test Procedures for Conformity Assessment of Chargers Used in Cell Phones.

The update was prompted by the need to adapt procedures for testing the mechanical and thermal resistance of chargers. In these tests, chargers are exposed to situations that attest to their quality and durability, such as: free-fall tests, high-temperature behavior, sequential connection and disconnection of the charger to a standard electrical outlet, twisting of the charger pins, among others.

The main objective of these tests is to ensure user safety. After the certification test sequence, the charger pins must not be deformed to the point of hindering or preventing proper insertion and removal from an electrical outlet. Furthermore, no part of the charger must be loose or deformed to the point of exposing a live electrical contact.

The new requirements for charger certification will be mandatory starting October 14, 2024. This deadline is essential for industry, testing laboratories, and certification bodies to adapt to the new requirements and testing procedures.
